If you want to call Flash from JavaScript in MSIE, you must ensure that the object tag is inserted into a node already in the DOM tree.
Also if the wmode is not "opaque" or "transparent" (or maybe anything but "standard") calls from flash to javascript will not redraw the dom in MSIE
